New to Therapy?
Starting therapy can feel daunting — especially if you’re not sure what to expect, what to say, or whether it’s even “for you.” If you’re feeling unsure, you’re not alone. Many people feel nervous before their first session.
Here are some common questions that might help ease those worries.
What is therapy like?
Therapy is a space just for you — to talk, reflect, and make sense of what’s been weighing on you. There’s no “right” or “wrong” way to do therapy, and you don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin. We’ll move at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is about getting to know you. We’ll talk about what’s brought you to therapy, what you’re hoping to get out of it, and any concerns you may have. You’re welcome to ask questions at any point — about therapy, the process, or how we’ll work together. There’s no pressure to share anything you’re not ready to talk about.
Do I need a diagnosis or a “big” problem?
No. People come to therapy for many reasons — stress, anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, trauma, life transitions, or simply wanting to understand themselves better. You don’t need to be in crisis or have a diagnosis to benefit from therapy.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Therapy is confidential, with a few legal exceptions related to safety. These will be clearly explained so you know exactly how your information is handled.
Not sure if therapy is right for you?
That’s fair enough! Therapy is a collaborative process, and it’s important that it feels like the right fit. If you’re curious but unsure, you’re welcome to reach out with questions or explore whether this feels like the right next step for you by booking in a Discovery Call.
